On the itsvegan community ranking, Ian Machado Garry is currently #1. Seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton is often named the best-known vegan athlete in the world; the list also includes ultrarunning legend Scott Jurek, strongman Patrik Baboumian and many Olympians. The order changes as members vote.
Yes. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics says appropriately planned vegan diets are suitable for athletes, and vegan competitors hold titles in sports from strongman and bodybuilding to ultrarunning and Formula 1. The key is eating enough total energy and protein and covering vitamin B12, vitamin D, iron, calcium and omega-3s.
Most vegan athletes aim for roughly 1.2–2.0 g of protein per kg of body weight per day (the range in the joint ACSM / Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics position), from foods like tofu, tempeh, seitan, lentils, beans, soy milk, peas and pea or soy protein powders spread over the day.
Practically all of them: Formula 1, football, tennis, basketball, MMA and boxing, cycling, marathon and ultrarunning, bodybuilding and strongman, weightlifting, climbing, surfing and figure skating. Use the sport filter above to browse by discipline.
The ranking is recalculated every hour from community upvotes (the strongest signal), how many members recommend the profile, profile views over the last 30 days and — when the person or a moderator adds them with a source — public follower counts, which are log-scaled so huge accounts can’t drown out everyone else.
Anyone can add a publicly vegan person with a link to a source where they say they are vegan (an interview, article or their own post). If you are vegan yourself — athlete, creator, musician, author or activist — tick “This is me” when you add your profile: it’s free, and you’ll manage it and get the “claimed” tick.
